A DAD has spent two weeks in hospital and undergone multiple surgeries after suffering a serious medical episode behind the wheel of his car before a horror crash.
Ross Verner, from Basildon, veered off the road and crashed into a ditch at speed earlier this month - leaving him in a coma for two days and with multiple fractures, a split bowel and internal bleeding.
The 26-year-old dad-of-two is self employed and has been told it will be at least four months until he can return to work and the young family have been petrified about how they will cope.
Ross remains in hospital, in Brighton, after the crash on the M23 as he travelled home from a job.
He has undergone two operations and the distance is adding additional strain for Monica Murphy and their two children as they travel from Basildon to visit him.
Monica said: “Ross was on his way home from working in Brighton when he passed out at the wheel on the M23, and went into a ditch.
“He managed to climb out, and bystanders called the ambulances. I then got a call that he was in hospital, in a critical condition.
“It has been so hard to cope without him at the moment. But I am just happy he has had great doctors to save his life.
“He is literally the best dad and partner. They don’t make them like him anymore, he is gentle, kind, what you see is what you get.
“I have never had to want or ask for anything. No matter how hard he works, he always has time for us.
“We are heartbroken this has happened.”
Ross is a dad to Marvel-Lee, two, and Psalm-XCI, 11 months, and is self-employed as a sealant applicator.
A GoFundMe has since been set up to help support his family whilst Ross continues to recover.
Monica added: “Although he is in this position, he still cares about us, making sure I am fine, he is selfless.
“I feel so alone and lost. He did find out two days ago he may be able to go home, but then they discovered a leak in his bowels. So, he is back on medications to see if that works, if not it is a third operation and a stoma bag.
“So, it could be anything from a week to a month until we have him home.”
