THREE “dilapidated” and empty businesses have been placed on the market for a whopping £800,000 ahead of controversial proposals to build new family homes.
Plans have been approved by Southend Council to demolish the buildings and replace them with four new homes at Woodside Parade, Leigh, and now they have been put up for sale ahead of work.
The businesses have been empty for several years but proposals to replace them with homes proved controversial and Stephen Aylen, ward councillor for Belfairs opposed the plans and remains concerns.
He said: “It has surprised me to see the opportunity on the market.
“I am still totally against it. I have spoken out against it before.
“The plan overlooks other residents in the area, it doesn’t fit in with the street scene. I have concerns with parking.
“Residents weren’t happy with the plans either. So, it is still a real concern.
“But not a lot can be done now it is approved. It is disappointing to see and is a bit of a shock to now see that development on the market.”
Plans were approved back in August by Southend Council, however no work has taken place on the site.
All four new homes will be three-bed properties, with one parking space each and an electric vehicle charging point.
The applicant described the site as becoming “dilapidated” and as a result “a visual blight on the character and appearance of the area”.
The Rightmove description, by Bear Estate Agents, adds: “This development site offers the perfect canvas for your dream project – a demolition and rebuild opportunity that promises to deliver four stunning new homes.
“Whether you are looking to create a family retreat or an investment opportunity, this property offers the ideal foundation for your vision.
“Don’t miss out on the chance to be a part of this thriving community and create something truly special in this desirable location.
