A DAZZLING two-day Christmas celebration on Canvey seafront has been postponed after "serious concerns" over this weekend's weather forecast.
A festive extravaganza was set to bring a line-up of performances, attractions, and holiday delights including a Christmas market and skating rink, to Eastern Esplanade on Saturday and Sunday.
However, due to safety concerns raised over this weekend's weather forecast with strong winds and rain expected, organisers say they had no option but to postpone the 'Christmas time at Canvey seafront' event to future dates.
In a joint statement shared by Visiting Canvey, Jimmy Macs and Fantasy Island, organisers have apologised for the postponement but say public safety is the "primary concern".
The statement says: "Unfortunately, due to serious safety concerns regarding the weather forecast this weekend we have no option but to postpone our Christmas Time at Canvey seafront event.
"We have not taken this decision lightly but as a company public safety is our primary concern.
"We understand this news may be disappointing, as we have worked tirelessly over the past weeks preparing for the event but we couldn’t foresee the wind that’s forecast this weekend.
"If you were due to perform at this event or you were a stall holder we will be in contact shortly to discuss an alternative date for the event along with your specific questions.
"We are working hard to confirm a new date which will hopefully be very soon and will share further updates as soon as possible."
The weather, however, does not affect the opening of the new Santa's grotto at Fantasy Island amusement park and all bookings will go ahead as planned.
The statement adds: "We are grateful for all the support we had from the local community when organising this event on behalf of our chosen charities this year and we know we will get the same local support for the new event dates.
"Thank you for your understanding and continued support."
