Many of us will remember Never Never Land in Southend, but most people can only imagine how the enchanting place looked back in its heyday.

The magical, fairy light-festooned attraction was located on land opposite Royal Terrace, overlooking Peter Pan’s playground, now Adventure Island of course.

When it first opened in the 1930s Never Never Land was filled with spectacular illuminations, weird and wonderful fairytale and animal tableaux as well as miniature sculptures.

A highlight of the attraction was the Fairy Falls, mini waterfall as well as The Merry Dell and Bedtime Corner.

Now, excitement is building as Southend Council has announced it is working on plans for a modernised version of the old attraction opposite Adventure Island which would honour the original.
