SOUTHEND Pier has been forced to close as Storm Bert continues to batter Essex.
Southend Pier and Railway has announced in a statement the pier has been forced to temporarily close due to high winds.
It comes as a yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office at 7.22am, which will be in place until 9pm tonight, November 24.
The Met Office warned of winds of 45-55mph, with coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities “likely” to be affected by spray and large waves.
Southend Pier and Railway said: “We are temporarily closed at the moment due to the high winds from Storm Bert.
“The Visitor Information Centre is open for souvenirs, Christmas gifts and information, plus both the toilets and Pier museums are open as usual.
“Stay safe out there!”
