A nine-year-old girl with a rare genetic condition has experienced her own “Christmas miracle” as she was reunited with her beloved stuffed toy thanks the kindness of the community.
Rosie Kirkman, from Basildon, was born with a rare genetic condition called KBG Syndrome, affecting her in many ways.
She has endured more than 126 medical procedures, including three open heart surgeries, and several bowel operations.
Through it all, her companion has been Ducky, a beloved stuffed animal gifted to her at just ten days old during her first surgery. This summer, Rosie’s wish came true when she visited Peppa Pig World, but heartbreak struck when Ducky was left behind at the hotel.
Despite tireless efforts to locate him, Ducky couldn’t be found, leaving Rosie devastated.
Her parents searched far and wide, contacting online retailers and even the hospital that originally provided the toy.
Unfortunately, the only supplier was based in Germany, and they couldn’t ship to the UK.
Enter Tanja, a kind-hearted friend of Rosie’s aunt. Hearing the story, Tanja not only procured an identical Ducky but brought it to the UK herself, penning a heartfelt letter about Ducky’s “travels” back to Rosie.
On Saturday, Rosie visited the Santa’s Grotto at Eastgate Shopping Centre in Basildon.
Santa and his Elves took the story to heart and devised a magical moment as Father Christmas presented Ducky to Rosie, explaining that he had helped bring Ducky home.
Rosie’s mum, Pam Kirkman said: “Santa and the elves went above and beyond. The smile has not left our little girl’s face since.
“People say how horrible it is in Basildon, and that no one will help anyone these days, but we have found the best people in Eastgate’s Grotto.
“Her face was a picture.
“Ducky goes everywhere with Rosie and hadn’t left her side since she was a baby. As Rosie has autism and ADHD, she couldn’t understand why we couldn’t just get him back.
“Tanja came to our rescue, and she brought this duck over with her. She even wrote a letter all about Ducky’s travels.
“We can’t ever thank Tanja and Santa and his elves enough.
“You don’t realise the happiness you have all brought to our little girl’s world.”
