A man wanted on recall to prison in Grays has been arrested.

Police were called to the area of Lytton Road in response to a disturbance at about 2.05pm today.

At the scene more than 20 officers searched the area.

The suspect attempted to evade them but the 37-year-old was located and detained in Scott Road at about 3.50pm.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault, possession of a bladed article, false imprisonment and possession of both Class A and Class B drugs. He was also wanted on recall to prison.

Inspector Dan Selby said: “We’d like to reassure the public we have located the man believed to be involved in this incident and that there is no wider threat to the public.

“A large number of officers, including support from our colleagues in the National Police Air Service, were involved in this search and I’d like to thank all of them for their swift response and professionalism.”
