An airport 'meet-and-greet' driver who killed a grandmother after he lost control of a customer's Range Rover has been jailed.

Naeem Shahani, 39, was jailed for more than two years and disqualified from driving for more than six years last week.

Shahani, of Dagenham, London, was working as a “meet and greet” driver when he lost control of the Range Rover around a bend near Stansted Airport.

'Meet and greet' drivers move and park customers cars at their arrival to the departure terminals of airports.

Shahani collided with a Mitsubishi Shogun which was travelling in the opposite direction in the village of Takeley, at 3.20pm on September 26, 2022.

The other driver spent almost two weeks in hospital after she sustained multiple injuries.

The front seat passenger, Phyllis Willis, 84, died at the scene.

Shahani had denied two charges of causing death by dangerous driving and serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was found guilty of both offences at the conclusion of a five-day long trial at Chelmsford Crown Court on October 25.

Shahani appeared at the same court earlier on Thursday where he was jailed for two years and four months.

He was also given a driving ban for six years and four months and ordered to take an extended driving re-test.

Phyllis's family paid tribute to her after the crash and said: "Our family is devastated by the sudden loss of our mother.

"She was a mother to five boys and grandmother to many grand / great grandchildren."

Detective Sergeant Sam Nason from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "This was a tragic collision that took Phyllis away suddenly from her loved ones.

"Today, my thoughts remain with Phyllis’s family and friends.”
