AN IRANIAN gay man, who fled his country because it prohibitis homosexuality, has been jailed for a year for possessing a fake passport and driving licence.

Majid Naderi, now 20, fled his native Iran in July 2007 over fears what would happen to him because homosexuality is strictly forbidden in the Muslim country.

He set up home in Basildon and applied for asylum but his application was turned down by the Home Office .

At Chelmsford Crown Court Naderi was jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to two offences of possessing identification documents - a forged Buglarian passport and a Portugese driving licence.
