Southend United have today been boosted by the news that winger Mark Gower will not be facing a long spell on the sidelines.

The former Tottenham Hotspur trainee, who has started the season in fine form, was forced to limp out of Saturday's defeat to Leicester City.

But the problem is not as serious as first feared and the 27-year-old is now expected to be fit to face Sheffield Wednesday in the Shrimpers' next match in a fortnight's time.

"Mark hasn't torn the muscle," confirmed Blues boss Steve Tilson.

"He should be OK to play against Sheffield Wednesay."
