ESSEX seconds claimed victory over MCC YC with a second successful run-chase in two weeks, in a game that was more even than the six-wicket margin suggests.
Maurice Chambers claimed 4-51 as MCC were bowled out in their first innings for 280.
Essex struggled in reply with debutant wicketkeeper Scott McKechnie top scoring with 71.
He shared in partnerships of 59 with Max Osborne (22) and 48 with Chambers (16) as they finished 29 runs short of MCC’s total.
Zimbabwean ODI international, Kyle Jarvis starred with the ball for Essex in MCC’s second innings, picking up three wickets in four balls, trapping Terry and Ballard leg before, before producing a gem to bowl Muchall. Blacktopp returned to make another 44, but at 141-8 with Essex well behind the over-rate, Andy Clarke (42*) was able to counter-attack, adding 49 for the last wicket with Christian Marsh.
Requiring 249 for victory, Billy Godleman (66) and Nick Browne (38) saw Essex through to 53 at the close of day three, before extending their partnership to 109 on the third morning.
Although both fell in quick succession, Arthurton (71*) and Napier (46) batted through to lunch and although Napier fell with the score on 206, Arthurton guided Essex to victory.
