Job Title: DISTRIBUTION CONTROLLER
Location: COLCHESTER, THURROCK, SOUTHEND, CHELMSFORD/BRENTWOOD AND BASILDON

Responsible to: DISTRIBUTION MANAGER

Main Objectives:

* To maintain an efficient and reliable weekly distribution service to all designated households within the circulation area of the paper.

Responsibilities:
To ensure that:

  • An adequate number of Distributors are recruited, trained and maintained in order to ensure efficient and reliable distribution at all times
  • New distributors are properly trained and inducted and that all distributors are able to do their jobs to the required level.
  • Available staff are trained to cover foreseeable vacancies or workload fluctuation.
  • Deficiencies in staff performance are identified and appropriate further guidance or training is arranged.
  • All distributors are visited personally at least every 3 weeks, using a structured contact schedule.
  • Health & Safety guidelines and policy are enforced and Risk Assessments are carried out on all new employees and every 6 months thereafter.
  • All delivery complaints are handled speedily and efficiently, with any remedial action carried out immediately.
  • Any discarded newspapers or leaflets are collected immediately and that the necessary action is taken.
  • To observe and maintain the departmental administrative systems.
  • To organise ancillary activities e.g. leaflets and special publications, which may be distributed either with the newspaper or on a separate occasion. This will include deliveries outside of our normal distribution area.
  • To ensure all persons employed are eligible to work in the UK and to provide supporting documentation as specified by the Company.
  • To ensure all distributors have signed and completed the relevant distributor agreement form and tax forms.
  • To ensure correct information bank account details are obtained for BAC’s payments. 
  • To ensure all ABC requirements are complied with and that all records are accurately maintained.
  • To ensure that any authorised junior staff working within the area are registered and that the company is in no way contravening bye-laws regarding the employment of young persons.
  • To advise the Distribution Manager of all opposition activity in the area.
