I think Warrior Square looks wonderful. It’s a thoroughly modern design, but still respectful to the original Victorian idea.
When I was there the place was packed with young people playing, families eating on the grass and elderly people sitting on the benches.
It’s so good to see money being spent on making nice areas, not just to attract tourists or investment, but for the residents too.
I know I’m not the only person in Southend who now enjoys walking from Victoria Avenue to the High Street I don’t have a problem with shared space – and haven’t when experiencing it abroad. Remember, we used to have trams in Southend.
If, like me, you regularly had to negotiate across the dual carriageway from the station you would see the obvious improvements.
Not everybody is obsessed with road movement and where to park.
As I see it, all of the new schemes completed this year have been designed to take domination away from the road and to reclaim areas for people to enjoy.
What is wrong with that?
Sadly, I think some rate roads and parking availability higher than creating a nice place to visit or live.
