POLICE have revealed they are not treating a death on the railway as suspicious.
Disruption was caused to the National Express East Anglia line on Tuesday after a body was discovered on the track.
Emergency services had to be called to the line between Rayleigh and Hockley station just before 7.10am.
A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: “The actual death is not being treated as suspicious. We don’t think anyone else was involved, and it was an individual act.”
However, they are still treating it as “unexplained” until they can be sure which train struck the body.
The man’s next of kin have been informed, but formal identification is yet to take place.
The case will then be passed to the coroner.
Anyone with information should call British Transport Police on 0800 405040, quoting reference 59 of 21/06/2011.
