I am amazed at some of the uninformed comments about the proposed new Fair Havens hospice at Belton Hills, Leigh.
If people object on the grounds the land in question is green belt, and that any development is unacceptable, that is their right.
But so often those same people suggest building at Little Havens as an alternative.
Little Havens is also in the green belt and planning permission for the children's hospice in Daws Heath Road, Thundersley was granted according to the special circumstances.
It was stated at the time that only a children’s hospice could be built and that no extra buildings could be added later.
The concerns of nearby residents at the time have proved to be unfounded.
The surrounding woodland has been managed for the benefit of the local community as well as the wildlife.
To those who put forward the “thin end of the wedge”
argument, I suggest that Havens Hospices can be trusted too.
