I am fed up with unwarranted criticism of the new bus lane on Bread and Cheese Hill, at Benfleet.

W A Craddock (June 29) describes the planners as “numptys”.

Sorry, but the numptys are actually, from my observations, the motorists who drive around with their eyes closed and fail to read the signs.

For 20 hours on every weekday and throughout the entire weekend, the inside lane is not a bus lane.

Those people, myself included, who Mr Craddock accuses of using the bus lane to “gain an advantage”

are actually the small percentage of competent and alert drivers who are driving in a perfectly correct manner, but are then forced to make way for incompetent drivers, who, on approaching the traffic lights, find themselves in the wrong lane.

That said, I will concede the end of the bus lane, when it applies, is much too close to the traffic lights and this needs to be reviewed.
