Last October, Southend Council posted planning notices in Broadclyst Gardens for painting double yellow lines on the corner with Branscombe Walk.
But the notice read Broadclyst Avenue. I told the council of this mistake and was promised it would be put right. Nothing happened.
In January, the lines were painted. I again phoned the council, which agreed the lines were illegal due to an improper planning notice and that new notices would be issued for retrospective planning permission. I was told an advertisement would be placed in the Echo to that effect and that no action would be taken against motorists parking on the lines. Nothing happened.
In April, I contacted councillor Brian Kelly, who spoke to the relevant department and was told this mistake would be remedied.
Again, nothing has happened and it appears nothing will be done.
The council officers concerned seem to think while individuals have to stick to planning notices, they do not, that they can ignore the council taxpayers who pay their salaries, and ignore an elected councillor.
The issue is not that the lines are not required (they are), but that these officers appear to think they are above the law.
Everyone can make a mistake, but to be told three times of that mistake and take no notice reeks of incompetence or sheer arrogance.
