GARAGES will be knocked down to make way for new homes under a council plan to tackle the housing shortage.

Waltham Forest Council has earmarked 56 sites for 148 new homes.

under the proposal, homes on 38 of the sites will be low cost, while the remaining plots will be sold on the open market.

Some garages will also be sold on but remain as garages under the strategy, with revenue used to fund improve public areas on estates.

A report to Cabinet, which improved the scheme on Tuesday (November 8) MUST CHECK, states: “The garage strategy proposals will deliver a number of significant benefits to residents.

“Many of the existing garage sites are derelict and attract anti-social behaviour.

“The demolition of these garages and the creation of improved public spaces and car parking spaces will greatly improve these unsightly and problematic areas for residents.”
