Ann Chalk says my view that travellers may attempt to use facilities on East Beach, Shoebury, was “absurd” (Nov 10).

Had she, like myself, spoken to those who used to manage the caravan site, she would know their constant worry was to ensure the site was only used by genuine holiday caravans/ campers.

Travellers used many subterfuges to gain entry and on one occasion did get on to the site.

They were asked to leave and did. However, the saying ‘history repeats itself’ comes to mind.

I have to ask, how is my comment “absurd”?

...Anne Chalk (Nov 10) cannot seem to grasp the site for camping and touring caravans at East Beach is no longer open, and has not been for more than three years.

Therefore, the borough would not be losing a campsite, but gaining a valuable facility for homeowners wishing to downsize and enjoy their retirement.
