My car was photographed by Southend Council’s spy car while it was there for three minutes outside my house. The car was never unattended for longer than 40 seconds at a time, as I was loading it with garden refuse destined for Leigh tip. Without so much as a word of warning, I had incurred a £35 fine. Is this the true spirit of our parking regulations? If so, have my £35 Southend Council. It must need it more than I do. Take my money and any remaining respect I had for the council. It is little better than the infamous wheel clampers which have just been outlawed. Having said that, at least they had the decency to speak face to face and inform of one’s contravention.

...The motorists who have been complaining about the Southend spy car have only themselves to blame. Anyone with any common sense simply fits false number plates to their cars and then the spy car cannot get them. Like many other examples in today’s world, it is only the law-abiding who get caught. Those with illegal false number plates get away with it over and over again.
