I read with interest the recent article describing how difficult it was to find land for use as allotments in Billericay. Undoubtedly in the current climate, it is good that people wish to grow their own vegetables, not to mention the benefits of getting healthy exercise when carrying out the necessary gardening chores. Perhaps Conservative-run Basildon Council ought to follow its own example of Victoria Park, in Laindon, where it chopped down some good mature oak trees to release land for allotments. Maybe such facilities could be provided by allocating land at Lake Meadows for such a purpose.
