Once again the Children In Need charity was with us last weekend, and once again the British public rose to the occasion by giving so generously, to help children in this country of ours.
The essential needs of food, clothing and a roof over their heads, is a priority, but they also need a place to play that is safe, close to home and which is cared for by the community, such as Kent View recreation ground, in Vange.
Being out in the countryside strikes a chord with the spirit and, as such, it can bring peace of mind, raise community consciousness, plus a hope for the future of a green and pleasant Basildon.
When I look at the way Pitsea, which was once a rural idyll, has been desecrated, it makes me want to weep for what it could have been. It’s another reason why the Vange community is fighting so hard to keep their small piece of sanity – namely Kent View Road recreation ground.
