Who can help but be moved by the stories of those distraught families who have lost loved ones as a result of accidents involving people who should not be on the road (Nov 21)?
The law has to change. The medical profession has to be allowed to notify the DVLA if they diagnose someone with a condition which severely affects their ability to drive.
We all want to retain our independence for as long as possible, but not at the risk of killing or maiming someone. This doesn’t just apply to the over 70s.
Tougher sentences may act as a deterrent, but sadly that is after the event. Surely it is preferable to prevent the driver getting behind the wheel in the first place?
