The issue of the danger from pavement cyclists must be resolved in Southend. Recent letters have raised concerns about this, especially where the elderly, disabled, and blind are concerned.
What I don’t understand is councillor Jonathan Garston’s statement that “we have spent thousands around the town, especially in Hamlet Court Road, to put in cycle lanes”.
They are by the traffic lights at the junction with Canewdon Road, and at the top by the lights at the junction with London Road, but they are not the whole length of the road.
Where are they in Southend High Street, where people are afraid of the speeding bikes?
I walk almost every day and see the dangers of what is happening. If councillor Garston was to do the same, he might be shocked at his findings and do something positive to firmly enforce the law.
The safety of the people is paramount, surely.
