I see the Conservatives are turning their sights to another part of Basildon, namely Eversley Leisure Centre and playing fields.
How many more of the council’s “assets” will they be reviewing and have in mind to destroy for cold hard cash for their purposes?
We will, of course, be told there will be full consultation with the public – and we know the outcome of that!
One wonders if this is not payback time for when the Labour council built in Billericay and Wickford.
In these times of economic downturn, it beggars belief that so much regeneration is being considered.
There is also talk of Pitsea pool being demolished to make way for a Morrisons supermarket.
What of councillor Stephen Horgan’s statement that he couldn’t have on his conscience the thought of a child drowning because they hadn’t learned to swim?
There are a lot of people who cannot afford to go to the Sporting Village, so these local amenities are essential.
This administration needs to think deeply about the results of its actions now, and the impact for the future, when it will no longer be in office.
