With regard to your story Big Debate Over Green Belt Hospice (Nov 21) Gay Frith states: “There would be a special nature area to encourage butterflies, insects and birds to thrive.”
I support South Essex Natural History Society which asks on its website: “Why destroy something that is already there?”
It reminds us Belton Hills Local Nature Reserve is a remnant of the former flower-rich grassland, including the Deptford Pink, that once covered the cliffs along the Southend coastline.
It still supports butterflies and other insects and provides a touch of the countryside in this built-up area.
