What your correspondent W Diment fails to realise when writing about striking teachers is that the whole community is not in the same boat and will never be so long as 1 per cent of the population control 40 per cent of the country’s wealth.
The £500billion collected annually by the Government does not reflect this country’s real wealth, and never will until we have a government which has the guts to restructure our tax system and the means to operate it to ensure the wealthiest people pay their fair share of taxes.
The wealth of this country is produced by those who work to make the goods and produce the services we need, not by those in the City and the banks who use the money to play Monopoly.
It is important for our youngsters to realise what they can do to at least attempt to redress the unfairness in our society.
People do not strike for fun. They do so when their legitimate problems and concerns are ignored.
