Basildon’s kamikaze sliproad off the A127 at Pipps Hill was an accident waiting to happen and a serious accident has now happened.
There have been several minor accidents, with many near misses. If these are not counted, is Essex County Council waiting until somebody gets killed before it admits its error?
How independent was the road safety audit? The statement by councillor Tracy Chapman that the sliproad conforms to the design manual I find difficult to believe.
I bet the manual does not include a short sliproad culminating in a narrow underpass. There are three lanes of traffic converging into one lane. There has been a lack of common sense used on this scheme.
