Having looked at the plans for the redevelopment of Basildon’s town centre, I wonder whether planners have done their homework prior to their proposals.
They show the redevelopment of St Martin’s Square and especially St Martin’s Gardens. They also mention the walkway from the bell tower to Gloucester Park.
What they don’t seem to have taken into account is the fact that St Martin’s Gardens is owned by the Church Commissioners and part of the proposed walkway is owned by St Martin’s parochial church council.
Already these proposals have put the backs up of those who attend St Martin’s and the parochial church council, both of whom have never been consulted over such proposals.
The plans show no vehicular access to the church for weddings or funerals or access to the church rectory.
One wonders what planet these planners and whose who instructs them.
