The letter of R A Mortlock (March 6) bears the heading “Kamikaze sliproads”.

There have been accidents at the Laindon slip road. I believe there will certainly be more.

However, I consider the word kamikaze should be applied to the aggressive and careless drivers, who attempt to force their way into the mainstream traffic.

The slip road is no more dangerous than the majority of those accessing the A127. Using it always requires careful observation via the wing mirrors to ascertain the presence and speed of oncoming traffic.

If there are drivers who consider themselves not competent to do this, the original route, via the roundabout, is still open to them, although using this in the rush hour could cause tailbacks, which the slip road was designed to remove the need for. Perhaps the answer might be for driving instructors to give more time in regards to the extreme care needed when exiting sliproads.
