THE season of good will is almost here and one of the biggest employers in south Essex is already getting into the festive spirit.
Big-hearted bosses at Tilbury Power Station have lent their support to St Luke’s Hospice Christmas Envelope Appeal and are sponsoring this year’s festive fundraiser.
The annual appeal sees more than 140,000 envelopes delivered to homes and businesses in Basildon and Thurrock by hospice volunteers, along with help from the Echo and its sister papers the Thurrock Gazette, Billericay Weekly News and the Basildon and Wickford Reporter.
Although times are financially tough, Marilyn DeBattista, head of revenue development at St Luke’s, said even a small donation will help the hospice to continue to provide free care and support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year both at the hospice, in Nethermayne, Basildon, and in people’s homes.
“If everybody receiving one of our appeal envelopes could find a way to support us, even with a small amount of money, collectively it will make a big difference to the many people the hospice help and support.
“We are extremely grateful to Tilbury Power Station for their support as their sponsorship has enabled us to get the appeal off to a good start.”
Sue Butcher, who works at the power station, added: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to be involved with St Luke’s Hospice Christmas appeal.
“The special care St Luke’s gives cannot be overstated. It has touched the lives of thousands of families in Basildon and Thurrock who have benefited from a whole range of care provided by the hospice.
“By supporting this appeal we hope it will enable the hospice to continue to be of greater benefit to the local community.”
Donations to the appeal can also be made direct to the hospice by credit or debit card by calling 01268 524973.
