BRITISH Transport Police are looking to speak with four men after five Asian men were racially verbally assaulted on a train.

The incident happened on Sunday, July 21 when four men boarded the train at Grays station at around 8pm. Five Asian men, aged in their twenties, also boarded at the station and were subjected to racist insults.

The four men who incited the attack had previously trespassed on the tracks.

The train was travelling from Grays to Barking. On arrival at Barking another man, who BTP believe knew the suspects, boarded the train and threatened to attack the victims.

A 19-year-old man from Woodford Green was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. He has been released on police bail, due to return on Tuesday,August 27.

Investigators have now released CCTV images of four men they would like to speak to in connection with the incident, as they are believed to have key information.

PC Greig Watkins, the investigating officer, said: “Officers were alerted and swiftly attended the incident.

“Violence and verbal assaults on the rail network is simply not accepted. No one should be subjected to such vile behaviour, and we will do all we can to track the men responsible and bring them to justice.

“If you know any of the men, or are indeed one of those pictured, come forward and help officers in this investigation.”

The men officers who keen to speak to are believed to be from the Grays area.
