A DEDICATED team of fundraisers will be scaling the highest mountain in Africa to raise thousands of pounds for a Canvey children’s charity.
Eighteen people will climb Mount Kilimanjaro next March in a bid to raise £18,000 for the Indee Rose Trust.
Lead by the charity’s founder, Russell Dopson, they will travel to the top of the mountain, which stands at an incredible 19,000ft.
Mr Dopson set up the charity in 2009 in memory of his beloved daughter, Indee Rose.
He said: “A lot of the guys wanted to do something special for the charity but we’re not really keen on running marathons, so this seemed like a good idea.
“It’s more like an adventure really and will be a once in a lifetime experience for a good cause.
“We advertised it on our Facebook page and before we knew it we had all these people signing up which was great.
“We’re all in training at the moment. I am feeling OK about it now but I think closer to the time I might start feeling a little nervous.”
The Indee Rose Trust was formed as a tribute to Indee Rose, who died tragically after being diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was just three.
The charity provides vital support to families who have a child with a brain or spinal tumour.
Since starting up it has issued more than 250 treasure boxes filled with toys to children in need and provided 20 grants to help support their families.
