FLYTIPPERS are blighting a residential access road in Leigh.

Residents are unable to drive down the route along the back of homes in Blenheim Chase, near Randolph Close.

A van load of old carpet was left piled up to 4ft high at about 11pm one night last week. The van was heard driving off at speed.

Another day a resident spotted another commercial vehicle dumping six black bags of waste and shouted at them over the fence, they also sped away.

Resident Frances Smith said: “It happens quite often but more and more is being left and people are being more blatant.

“Me and my husband use mobility scooters and can’t get down to our house from one way as its completely blocked.

“There are resident and council tenants here and we try to keep it tidy but when people drive here and dump all this its impossible. It’s not on, its not up to us to clear away other people’s rubbish.”

The route backs on to Manchester Drive allotments.

Traci Dixon, South Essex Homes’ group manager for housing services, said: “We have not previously been made aware of any ongoing issues with fly tipping in this particular service road and had not been informed that carpet is currently blocking the road.

“Now that we are aware, we will arrange for the road to be cleared.

“If residents witness fly tipping talking place, we would urge them to note down the details of the offending vehicles and descriptions of any people involved and report it to our tenancy services team on 0800 833 160, who will investigate the matter further.

“It is only through receiving such reports that we know what is happening so can tackle any ongoing issues effectively.”
