A YOUNG dog was found soaked in blood and badly bitten after being abandoned by its owner.

The one-year-old female Staffordshire bull terrier was discovered in Long Riding, Basildon.

The pet, who has been named Lilly, was taken to Benfleet Veterinary surgery, in Kents Hill Road North, for urgent treatment and medication.

She had bite wounds all over her legs that animal experts say could have been caused by another dog, but officials would not be drawn on whether Lilly had been used as a fighting dog.

She has since been transferred to Acres Way Kennels, in Great Burches Way, Thundersley.

Manager Tom Millson condemned the state Lilly was left in.

He said: “Local authorities and rescue centres are yet again left to deal with the mess irresponsible owners cause.
