Four fire engines were sent to the scene, and were still there after 10am, with the small road closed to traffic.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and the fire service and police will carry out an investigation.
Sub officer Jeff Hammond from Leigh Fire Station said: "When firefighters arrived at the scene the house was well alight and the fire had broken into the roof.
"Fire crews did an excellent job in tackling the blaze and it is thanks to the crew's professionalism and hard work that the fire did not spread to the house next door.
"No one was home at the time of the fire, an investigation is now underway to establish the cause of the blaze."
