WORKERS at an animal centre are heartbroken after their star attraction was pig-napped.
The guinea pig, known as Sunbeam, was taken from her enclosure at Hadleigh Rare Breeds Farm in Castle Lane.
Centre staff noticed her disappearance as they were counting the animals.
They conducted a search of her cage, but could not find her and now believe she was taken by a member of the public.
Sunbeam had just given birth to a daughter called Samphire.
Emma Sayer, manager of the farm, said: “We’re all very worried about Sunbeam.
“Being taken away from her daughter and home will be extremely distressing and upsetting.
“Sunbeam is our friendliest, most vocal guinea pig and is the star of our animal talks and visits. If anyone has any information or can bring Sunbeam back, we’d be so pleased to see her again. Staff, visitors and Samphire miss Sunbeam very much.”
The rare breeds centre is open throughout the summer and allows visitors to get up close to a variety of animals. Sunbeam originally arrived at the centre after being rescued in Southend.
Emma added: “I just cannot believe someone would do something like this. The animals only cost £20 from the shop.
“She was suchalovely animal and we all miss her.
“I just hope the person responsible listens to their conscience. They can put her in a box and leave her at the office or ring us anonymously.”
