KEEN cyclists are being encouraged to get on their bikes to raise money for poorly children.

Hadleigh Castle Rotary Club is holding a sponsored family bike ride on Sunday, September 15, to raise money for the Haven’s Hospice.

The six-mile route starts at Hadleigh Nature Reserve and the ride includes four laps around the circuit – although competitors can finish the ride early.

The event is suitable for most age groups and competitors should bring a mountain type bike or road bike with treaded tyres.

Pat Read, from the rotary club, said: “This is the third year we have held the event and it is always a really good day.

“Unfortunately it was torrential rain last year, however, we are hoping the weather will be better this time.”

Havens Hospice provides care for children with illnesses which could shorten their life.

It also offers respite care for families who would prefer to care for their child at home.

Anyone aged under 16 wants to take part in the event must be accompanied by an adult. The entry fee for anyone entering in advance of the event is £8 for anyone aged over 16 years and £4 for children.

Entry fee on the day is £10 for over 16s and £5 for children.

The ride starts at 11:30am at Little Havens Children’s Hospice in Daws Heath, Thundersley.
