LAST week’s flooding hasn’t stopped one business in Hockley from continuing to operate.

DLA Computers, on Southend Road, filled with water just hours after closing for the day.

Owner Derek Law closed the store at 1pm on Saturday while rain was hammering from the sky but when he drove past the store at 5pm he saw the car park was under three-feet of water.

He immediately stopped his car and waded through water to get to his shop.

When he got there, his worst nightmare had been realised when he saw that the store sat under 2ft of water, ruining thousands of pounds of equipment, including customers’ computers.

Mr Law said: “It was just a matter of hours between me leaving the shop and then it being under water. It all happened so fast.

“We lost about £2,000 worth of stock. We were lucky though because our main server was on a desk so that was saved.

“The water subsided the next day but most out stuff was ruined. As well as the server we managed to save a couple of PCs too.”

The town was one of the worst hit areas during the deluge, with four children saved from a car just moments before it sunk under water at Hockley Bridge.

Because of the flooding, Mr Law said the company, which has been operating in the town for 18-years, is continuing to operate from his home address.

He is putting out an A-board each day in front of the store telling customers where the business can found.

A move in date has yet to be set, but Mr Law said his insurance company had been a great help.

He added: “We're still carrying on and providing the same support and service.”
