CHIP shop worker Jackie Hall has served a number of famous faces in her 37 years of service, but now she has flipped her final fish and retired.

Jackie, 66, from Westcliff, worked her last shift at Oldhams chip shop on Saturday.

Jackie has served the likes of comedians Lee Evans and Al Murray, actor Norman Wisdom, and Sue Holderness, who played Marlene on Only Fools and Horses.

She has also met soap stars including Pat Phoenix, who played Elsie Tanner in Coronation Street, and Leslie Grantham and Patsy Palmer, who played Dirty Den and Bianca Butcher in EastEnders.

She said: “But our most exciting celebrity guest was Cliff Richard! I didn’t serve him, but I was in the shop, and it caused quite a stir – he had the upstairs to himself.

“Another I remember vividly is when Joan Rivers came in. She had cod and chips, and she must’ve really liked it because, as she was leaving, she ordered another one to take with her for later.”

Jackie has worked for two generations of the Oldham family since she started in April, 1976 – shop founder Rodney Oldham and his son, and current owner, Bradley Oldham.

Jackie said: “I will miss working here very much. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, and they’ve been really good to me. I still get a buzz from serving the customers even after all these years.”

Jackie worked in the shop, in West Road, Westcliff, full time, from Tuesday to Saturday.

She said: “All the customers have been wishing me luck, and I’ll be keeping in contact with some of them.

“I’ll still come in for a meal now and again. It will be really funny sitting at the other side of the counter.”

Her old boss Bradley Oldham said: “We’ll really miss Jackie. She’s loved by all the customers – there have been tears!”
