AROUND 6,000 people have called for Leigh Library to be saved from closure as the consultation on its future comes to an end.
Leigh Town Council and campaign group Save Leigh Library handed in the petition calling for the Grade II listedbuilding to be kept fully-staffed after a proposed shake-up of the service across the borough.
Amy Cousins, who helped start the campaign, said: “It shows the overwhelming support for keeping the library where it is and run by proper librarians.
“Everyone we spoke to that signed it wanted to not only to keep the library, but keep it run by librarians in the same building.”
