A FLAT owner was forced to flee their home as a fire took hold in a bakery in Leigh.
Fire crews tackled the blaze at Grouts bakers in Rectory Grove at 8.50pm last night after a resident in the flat above reported smoke billowing into the property.

When they arrived, the ground floor was well alight and crews are wearing breathing apparatus and are using one hose reel to tackle the blaze.
Sub-officer Dean Riley from Leigh fire station said: "The fire started in a refrigerated display cabinet spreading rapidly into the false ceiling of the shop.
"Fire crews were alerted by the occupant of the first floor flats above the parade of shops when smoke started to pour through the floor of their flats forcing them to flee.
"Firefighters in breathing apparatus forced entry to the shop and quickly brought the fire under control before it could spread beyond the shop. "Simultaneously separate crews checked and ventilated the smoke logged flats above."
