THE streets of Hadleigh will be transformed into an art gallery next month.

The Hadleigh Art Trail returns for its third year in October and will feature work by around 50 local artists at shops, businesses and spaces across the town.

Originally set up as part of the 2012 Olympic Legacy, the trail is now being run by Hadleigh-based artists who promise this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.

Sue Willis, Hadleigh Art Trail co-ordinator, said: “Part of Essex Summer of Art, Hadleigh Art Trail is popular with businesses, residents and the artist community alike showcasing a diverse mix of fine art, photography, ceramics, sculpture, film, poetry and music.

“Alongside the trail there’s a full programme of arts events offering free entry to activities for all ages including demonstrations, workshops and even a chance to see behind the scenes as artists open their studios to the public.”

The trail will be held between Friday, October 4 and Sunday, October 13 and work will be displayed at around 30 venues across the town.

Hadleigh Old Fire Station will be at the centre if the event, hosting an “All Trail” exhibition.

There will be free, drop-in art workshops and taster sessions that will feature alongside poetry readings, jazz, film screenings, artists’ talks and presentations.

Ms Willis added: “Hadleigh is rich in history with its 13th-century castle, famously painted by John Constable,aSaxon church and Hadleigh Farm, venue for the London 2012 mountain biking event.

“Hadleigh’s bustling town centre offersarange of independent shops and a wide choice of places to eat and drink. Plenty of free parking and well served by bus routes from neighbouring towns and nearby rail stations.”

The free trail guide is now available to help visitors plan their visit and is available at www.hadleigharttrail.org.uk and in shops, libraries and other public places.
