WORK to clear one of Southend’s worst eyesores to make way for almost 50 affordable homes will start within a week.
Southend Council will officially hand over the site of the former Maybrook Training Centre and Burland House, in Southchurch Road, Southend, to housing association the Guinness Trust today.
Hoarding will go up and workmen from contractor Keepmoat will begin clearing the site within the next week.
The first step is to move an electricity substation from the land.
The 22 flats and 26 houses will be ready by March 2015.
