A man decided to bravely fight back when he was threatened by a gang of would-be robbers.
The 19-year-old man was walking through Stock Road, Billericay when he was approached by the four men.
They grabbed him and demanded he hand over all his cash.
But, instead of complying with their demands, he lashed out at the robbers, hitting them with his fists. He then ran leaving the crooks empty- handed.
The victim suffered minor scratches to his fists.
Acting Insp Mark Rayner said: "Although we would not advise people to confront robbers, this man was brave and, luckily, managed to get away with all his belongings and only minor injuries. We would urge anyone with information about his attackers to contact us."
The robbers are described as black and all wore grey hoodies.
The attack happened at 2am last Thursday. Witnesses can call police on 01268 532212.
