A CAKE-MAKING runner had double success as her baking won a gold medal at an international cake show before she completed her fifth marathon.
Hayley Wisken, 30, from Great Wakering, spent 87 hours making the cake, which features famous landmarks on the London Marathon route.
But all that effort paid off when it won gold in the Novelty Cake and Novelty Design categories at the Cake International Show.
Hayley’s creation is made purely of icing and cake, with no wire or sticks to hold things in place.
She said: “I was really chuffed to get gold.
“The marathon was less good though, I ran with my husband Michael and six hours 17 minutes is our worst one yet.
“I took on a lot with the competition and the race, one thing was going to slip and it was the training unfortunately.”
Hayley began running marathons after the death in 2009 of her father, Richard, who himeslf ran 82 marathons.
Michael has taken inspiration from his wife’s cake-making exploits and even entered a cupcake of his own at the show – taking a silver medal.
