A MAN has been charged with the murder of Michael Haastrup who died after suffering a stab wound in Braintree.

Luke Eva, 24, of Avondale Road, Leigh, was charged with Mr Eva's murder late yesterday.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Chelmsford Magistrates Court.

Police yesterday named new dad Mr Haastrup as the victim.

Mr Haastrup, 24, from Southend died in Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire on Thursday, April 17.

He was stabbed in the chest following a disturbance at premises in Cressing Road, Braintree, at about 11pm on Wednesday evening.

His grieving family have paid tribute to the man who used to help homeless children.

In a statement they said: "Michael was a new father, a son, a brother and a good friend who had his whole life ahead of him. He had just got a new job and had a lovely new home with his partner and new son.

"He was loved by many and helped people when he could. He used to bring in young homeless children to spend Christmas with his family to make them feel a part of this world again and bring hope into their lives.

"May his humble soul rest in peace."

A 20-year-old Braintree woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been bailed pending further enquiries

A 57-year-old man from Braintree also arrested in connection with the murder has been released from bail.
