SOUTH Essex College is holding a recruitment event for English and maths teachers tomorrow at 6pm.
The College, which has campuses in Southend and Basildon and a brand new £45 million campus opening in Grays in September, is looking for people who are passionate about maths or English, from people looking to take their first steps into teaching or an already experienced teacher looking for a new exciting opportunity.
The move follows a Government announcement that students in England who fail to achieve at least a grade C in maths and English GCSE must carry on studying the subject until the age of 18.
Angela O’Donoghue, principal and chief executive of the college, said: “Due to this change South Essex College is looking to engage a number of full or part time lecturers who are specialists within GCSE English, maths and functional skills.
“The successful candidates will be delivering lessons to students at various levels, including 14-16 year olds, 16-18 year olds, adult learners and those on apprenticeships.”
Those interested will need a degree or equivalent qualification and a Level 3 qualification in maths and/or English, if the degree is un-related to these subjects. A teaching qualification is desirable but the college welcomes applications from unqualified or part-qualified candidates as training is available.
The event on Tuesday, April 29 starts at 6pm.
