THE Bishop of Chelmsford is going walkabout in Southend tomorow.
Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Chelmsford is inviting the people to join him on his ten planned “centenary missionary journeys” between May and October this year.
During the walk Bishop Stephen and his companions will pause at various locations including the Southend Naval & Military Club for lunch before arriving at St Peter & St Paul's Church in Hockley for a session called ‘Quiz the Bishop’.
Bishop Stephen said: “I will be making ten missionary journeys this year, each one about ten miles long, as part of the centenary celebrations of the Diocese of Chelmsford. 2014 is our 100th birthday.
But the Christian church has been around a lot longer than that in these parts. “In fact the first Essex missionary, St Cedd arrived in Essex more than a thousand years ago.
So I will be following in the footsteps of St Cedd and I will be aiming to share the same good news that he did with people.”
The journeys are part of the centenary celebrations of the Diocese of Chelmsford
