The performance of rail company c2c has come to the attention of the House of Commons.
Castle Point MP Bob Spink asked the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the company's performance in managing the rail network in southern Essex.
In reply, Tom Harris, said: "Improving rail performance is a key objective for the Department for Transport.
"However, managing rail network performance is the responsibility of Network Rail and joint action plans are in place between Network Rail and c2c to address performance issues.
"These are monitored monthly."
Dr Spink said he had been aware of increasing concerns from commuters and added: "They have improved, but we need to ensure performance continues to improve in areas like overcrowding and station facilities."
